VICTORY AT LAST
My name is Emmanuel Alice, I am from Ai-Fam Owukpa in Ogbadigbo Local Government Area of Benue State, I was born on 28th June, 1999 in the family of Mr and Mrs Emmanuel Ejembi. I am the third child in the family of seven (six girls and one boy). I left my village to stay with my aunty (my mum sister) at Nsukka at the age of 6, I finished my SSCE in the year 2018. At that same year, while I was waiting for my result, my aunty and husband were already planning for me to go and learn fashion designing because there is no money for me to go to higher institution.
So, on the process of waiting for my result and looking for a place to learn work, I then met our parish priest (Rev Fr Abel Mary) who told me about DEC Enugu and how they train girls on different skills. I told my aunty about it and they were happy. The parish priest spoke to DEC officials about me and through him I was able to come to DEC as a trainee and also privileged to stay with the Executive Director, DEC Enugu. Staying with her was really good for me and I learnt a lot apart from learning fashion designing. I also learnt about other personal life experiences that I might not have learnt from any other place. I call it grace and opportunity that God has given me in my life. I would have missed it, then it might not and will never come again in my life.
I was given an admission at DEC Enugu in the year 2018. I tried all my best to learn my work considering the family I come from and I don’t want the people who trust and hope that I will come out great feel ashamed for any reason. At the year 2020, I graduated and to God be the glory I was among the best and I had to go and work with Madam Grace (our Trainer at DEC) for some months. Early this year, 2022, my Aunty (the Executive Director of DEC) started searching for shop for me and to God be the glory she found one and paid for it and also DEC gave me sewing machine as a starter pack. My joy knows no bound when I received the sewing machine. I started working on my own on 4th March, 2022 which was like a dream to me and all happened like a miracle. I am that child that believe that “what God cannot do does not exist”.
Now I can say and boast that I have a place where I can sit and work as mine!!! Coming to DEC Enugu was never a thing to regret rather it is a journey succeeded in victory and Thanks to Dec for bringing out the best in me, I will always remain grateful.
