FORTY-FIVE (45) WOMEN LIFTED OUT OF POVERTY THROUGH HER SKILL ACQUISITION TRAINING FOR UNSKILLED YOUNG WOMEN IN 0FOLIJINWA COMMUNITY IN OFU LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA OF KOGI STATE
The rate of hardship and imbalance in the cost of living and survival especially among the rural people is highly on the increase in the communities in Nigeria. This was exacerbated by the high cost of petrol for motor transportation and food transport, increase in the electricity cost for food preservation and processing, insecurity that prevent farmers from going to farms, unemployment that is affecting the majority of the youths that finished school.
Lots of young mothers face the challenge of child bearing, lack of education and poverty as a result of no skills to help themselves and their families.
DEC Enugu in her women capital development programme with her partner communities in Igalamela/Odolu and Ofu local governments areas of Kogi state has trained and empowered over 350 young mothers with the skills of producing house hold items like cake, chin-chin, bar soap and detergent, shoe and bag making etc.
During this quarter, DEC Enugu and her partner community and the leaders of Ofolijinwa in Ofu local government area organized a – one month training of over 50 young mothers in catering/cosmetology and leatherworks skills acquisition. This training was carried out in the community to enable the women participate effectively and reduce the cost of transportation from their homes to the venue of the training.
DEC Enugu provided all the training materials, engaged the trainers, ensured that training venue is conducive for the young mothers and their children. The training also brought together the leaders of the community, the church leaders and the leaders of the women during the training who gave their support to the young mothers and encouraged DEC for being the first Organization that came to the need of the people especially the women and the young mothers who are now able to become self-reliance and provide for their people.
